MADAM LOUELLA

MADAM LOUELLA

There are several stories about Madam Louella, and she doesn’t seem particularly interested in straightening any of them out. Some say she came up from Mississippi, others say Louisiana, and there are those who claim they remember seeing her somewhere else entirely. Louella just smiles when asked.

She has always had a fondness for old things, odd things, and things most folks would have thrown away. Bits of wood, sticks, string, old cloth, wire, and whatever else happens to catch her eye may find their way into one of her curious little creations.

Her work has the look of something that might have been found in an old house, tucked away in a cupboard, or hanging on a nail in somebody’s back room for the last fifty years.

Louella doesn’t make a big fuss about what her things are supposed to mean. She has a saying for most of them, though, and usually it makes about as much sense as anything else she has to say.   She signs her work simply ML.

Nobody seems to know exactly where Madam Louella stays these days. We get her work from Illinois. Then again, nobody seems to know exactly how long she has been around, either. We suspect she prefers it that way.
